Attic Insulation & Ice Damming Solutions for Established Toronto Properties
Flat roofing issues are not limited to new construction. Many older homes and buildings in established Toronto neighbourhoods were constructed with roughly 10 inches of attic insulation cavity space, which frequently compresses to approximately 6 inches after years of settling. Because flat roof architecture does not permit blowing additional insulation into that cavity afterward, properties suffer severe winter heat loss, summer heat accumulation, and persistent ice damming along roof perimeters.
The Polyiso Solution:
Installing 2 to 4 inches of rigid polyisocyanurate (polyiso) insulation board above the roof deck during flat roof replacement permanently resolves cavity thermal bridging. It provides an efficient thermal barrier and is a seamless, cost-effective addition while the roof is open.
